Annual Cleanup Exercise
On 22nd September 2018 KLDA had a successful clean up exercise that brought together residents, students within Karen institutions, corporate bodies together to clean up Karen shopping center. The cleanup exercise was a great success, then there was the BIG question as to why not make it an annual event as a way to remind ourselves of the need for a clean environment at all times?
The KLDA committee therefore, made a decision to make the cleanup exercise an annual event.
Cleanup exercise 2018 
KLDA organized a meeting with Neighborhood Association representatives, representatives of institutions and universities within the Karen & Langata community for a planning meeting for the clean-up exercise as we geared up to the main event. In the meeting, the Chairman briefed the team on what KLDA’s plan for the cleanup was based on the decision of the KLDA Committee to make the cleanup exercise an annual event. KLDA’s wish was to partner with neighborhood associations and institutions for the clean-up exercise. KLDA put in some funds to employ youth to clean various areas within the Karen & Langata community. This contributed towards creating employment for youth who were willing to take up the task. In the meeting, the representative of Catholic University offered to nominate university students to take part in the exercise and who could be paid an allowance during the clean up period. The idea was welcomed and the Chairman suggested that the rest of the institutions should emulate it.
We are looking for corporate bodies to sponsor various neighborhoods by adopting garbage bins which will bear the logo of the respective company. The bins will be emptied by Taka Taka Solutions or Bins every two days in a week.
