KLDA GENERAL MANAGER PROFILE
Karen Langata District Association was started in 1940 as the Ngong District Association. In 1971, it registered as an exempt society as Karen Langata District Association (KLDA) commonly known as “Karengata” Association. Karen Langata District Association (KLDA) is the umbrella resident’s association for Karen residents and has been taking care of residents’ needs for the past 82 years. KLDA caters for residents’ needs that include development control, security, environmental matters amongst others.
To better serve KLDA members and the greater Karen community, in summary, the expected core responsibility of the KLDA General Manager will be to drive KLDA membership, manage KLDA financials as per the directions of KLDA’s committee approved budget, coordinate KLDA initiatives and projects, manage KLDA secretariat and act as Secretary to the KLDA committee.
The General Manager will assist the KLDA committee to address members concerns, relate with stakeholders within Karen Ward and beyond, liaise with government agencies both at the National and County level, partner with other like minded association’s leaders, expand membership/ sponsorship development and drive KLDA’s visibility and responsiveness of KLDA’s initiatives within the community and nationally.
Candidates are expected to show commitment to the values, aims and objectives of KLDA, have a qualification preferably in a development related, legal related or urban planning related field, demonstrate sufficient years of relevant working experience in management, representation/ networking, community management, have good writing and speaking communication skills.
The responsibilities, qualifications, together with the skills and competencies required for the General Manager’s position are to enable the General Manager to assist the KLDA committee achieve its vision for the greater good of KLDA and Karen Ward. The KLDA committee will provide oversight and directions to the successful candidate on behalf of the KLDA members
Requirements
1. Be the Secretary to the KLDA Committee.
Liaising with the KLDA committee and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the KLDA committee to function properly and to make informed decisions. The General Manager will be expected to design strategies and present the same to the KLDA committee to ensure growth of the association and service delivery to members of KLDA.
2. Oversee day to day operations of KLDA.
Providing leadership to the association and managing the KLDA staff. The General Manager will ensure staff meet their targets and continually monitor their performance indicators as per their job description and expectations. The General Manager will also handle Human Resource matters for the association. They will also be expected to manage and oversee all projects undertaken by the association for the benefit of the association and its members.
3. KLDA Accounting Officer.
The accounting officer will be responsible in ensuring that KLDAs accounts are run in a sustainable manner and will be responsible in the fiscal management of the association, oversight provided by the KLDA committee on behalf of its members. They will be expected to ensure the association’s expenditure is in line with its revenue and will ensure the association at every financial year increases its revenue. The General Manager will be responsible for keeping expenditure within the budget approved by the KLDA committee and report financial matters to the KLDA committee when called upon.
4. Liaising with KLDA Stakeholders.
The General Manager will be responsible for managing relationships with donors, sponsors, partners, government officials, elected representatives, and the community at large. They will be expected to nurture relationships for the mutual benefit of KLDA and its stakeholders.
5. KLDA spokesperson.
The General Manager will be the face of KLDA and will speak on behalf of the association. They will represent KLDA within the Karen Ward community, handle press releases and interact with the media where necessary or when called upon on behalf of the KLDA committee and KLDA members.

5. Be able to interact and serve the diverse KLDA (Karen Ward) community addressing needs and wants of different backgrounds, races, cultures and age groups.
6. Work well in a team and have outstanding social and intercultural skills
7. Competencies expected for the General Managers role include:
- Experience and knowledge in dealing with National and County governments.
- Capability in raising funds for the association to achieve its goals and objectives.
- Familiarity with the Karen Ward area
- Capability to unify residents within Karen Ward to achieve common goals
